The most damaging thing to Gor is when men surrender to the idea that truth is subjective. Truth is absolute and is unchanged by time and enlightenment. This is the entire point of the series, in my opinion.
People believe what they want to believe. Sometimes the truth just seems too far fetched, and sometimes another answer is easier to believe. When the truth challenges a perception of themself, loved ones, or something they hold dear, a person is more likely to reject the truth for any other reason that sounds more palatable.
